MIRBOO NORTH ART SHOW

MAY 10, 11 & 12 2019

Mirboo North Art Show on pause until 2024

The annual Mirboo North Art Show has been a strong feature of Gippsland’s arts program for almost 40 years.  Having started back in 1981 as a fundraiser for the Mirboo North primary school, it grew over the decades to become a regionally recognized art show.  Over time the Mirboo North Art Show was supported strongly by local and regional artists, who enjoyed the excellent curation, professional judging, strong sales and significant prize money.

This achieved twin objectives for the Mirboo North Primary School: it allowed the school to build connections with the community, the arts and to showcase creativity, as well as raising significant funds for the school to provide for new equipment and resources.

Traditionally linked to Mother’s Day weekend in early May, it was after a two year break over Covid that the Art Show returned in a winter setting in July 2022.  Its enthusiastic return in its 39th year provided opportunities to refresh some of the format reflecting the different season, as part of the newly developed Mirboo North Winterfest.

While the school’s passion for showcasing local and regional art works remains, it has had to pause celebration of the 40th year of the Mirboo North Art Show until 2024.  This one-year break will allow the new committee to transition into the management of the fabulous but complex event, linking in with local artists and the local community.

In the interim, the school’s creativity is not dampened as its fabulous art teachers work out how they will showcase the art works of their students at the Mirboo North Winterfest.   Keep an eye on the socials @Mirboo North Primary School for the reveal of this year’s amazing art works and how the school will be part of the Mirboo North Winterfest.

If you would like to become involved in the new fundraising group at the school (whether to work on the 40th Art Show or more generally) please contact Julie at the school on 5668 1375.  The school will appreciate any amount of time from parents, carers and connected community members, in planning fundraising projects, attending meetings or giving a helping hand at events or fundraising days.  From little things, big things grow!
